Jakarta

History Of Jakarta:

 

Jakarta celebrates a glorious history of 500 years. Initially a port city which developed into a trading center by 14th century, originated along the downstream of Ciliwung River. Part of the Hindu kingdom of Sunda this port was also known as Kelapa and was under the Portuguese rule since 1513. However the port city fell to the conquest of Fatahillah in the year 1557. The city was renamed Jayakarta. With time and under the Dutch rule, Jayakarta lost its name and became Batavia and continued to use this name till 1942. The Japanese invasion in 1942 got back the city's old name and after the Indonesian War of Independence was over, Jakarta was established as the capital of Indonesia with full glory.
